<br />
This pack was likely received as an arena giveaway. It's one of those things that my parents find in a shoebox when they're doing some cleaning, and they give it to me when they stop over. There's not too much mystery about what I'll be getting, as with the cello wrapper two of the three cards are visible. Let's tear in anyway.<br />
<br />
Top to Bottom:<br />
<b>#27 Victor Noguiera</b><br />
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vKvgI4WoA4A/Wq1gmWYSwII/AAAAAAAAVY8/syBPfsTXtoMUYa32Ifb35mPyzSaMXTmWgCLcBGAs/s1600/noguiera.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vKvgI4WoA4A/Wq1gmWYSwII/AAAAAAAAVY8/syBPfsTXtoMUYa32Ifb35mPyzSaMXTmWgCLcBGAs/s320/noguiera.jpg" width="228" height="320" data-original-width="748" data-original-height="1048" /></a><br />
Noguiera is arguably the best indoor goalkeeper of all time. He led the Wave to a string of championships and finals appearances in the late 1990s and early 2000s.<br />
<br />
<b>#9 Eloy Salgado</b><br />
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Tle6I69NFfA/Wq1goOym8hI/AAAAAAAAVZA/Ig0ANTFILCklpywywf2wKHmVsAMORT0FACLcBGAs/s1600/salgado.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Tle6I69NFfA/Wq1goOym8hI/AAAAAAAAVZA/Ig0ANTFILCklpywywf2wKHmVsAMORT0FACLcBGAs/s320/salgado.jpg" width="229" height="320" data-original-width="752" data-original-height="1052" /></a><br />
<br />
<b>Coupon for 40 Cents Off One Palermo's Pizza (exp. 7/31/1994)</b><br />
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sFfvNRKIc_E/Wq1go_QQpLI/AAAAAAAAVZE/DbmlXCk_jU81c5U9_K8D-8RLA9yImRZIwCLcBGAs/s1600/coupon.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sFfvNRKIc_E/Wq1go_QQpLI/AAAAAAAAVZE/DbmlXCk_jU81c5U9_K8D-8RLA9yImRZIwCLcBGAs/s320/coupon.jpg" width="222" height="320" data-original-width="748" data-original-height="1076" /></a><br />
I'm pleased to report that Palermo's Pizza is still around and doing well in Milwaukee. In fact, they made good by sending me a coupon for a free pizza when I sent them this photo of unacceptable pepperoni distribution/volume last year.<br />
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5xjwsQiDm0o/Wq1il89WQNI/AAAAAAAAVZU/eG3L46eQaWkgOzZndemlOZXYfck7vQtswCLcBGAs/s1600/pizza.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5xjwsQiDm0o/Wq1il89WQNI/AAAAAAAAVZU/eG3L46eQaWkgOzZndemlOZXYfck7vQtswCLcBGAs/s320/pizza.jpg" width="320" height="240" data-original-width="1200" data-original-height="900" /></a><br />
<br />
All in all, not too surprised about the contents of the pack. Multiple copies of the two player cards floated around my house, as my siblings and I all probably got the same pack upon entry. Maybe Mom and Dad, too. Yeah, the only reason I remember Salgado is because of this card. I don't think I've ever seen any of the other cards in this set.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15421385.post-4496901367170747672017-06-26T16:15:00.000-04:002017-06-26T16:15:24.351-04:001988 Topps CelloLast year I opened a wax pack of this stuff, hoping to find cards for my then-unfinished 1988 Topps set. Time has passed, and there's still a huge empty space in my box. No, I didn't make a want list for the set quite yet, as it would be too embarrassingly large. <br />
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iz4wyXv0Ahg/WVFoDrF00tI/AAAAAAAAU6s/9zlglm7mxegO7L5IzAFduxF0dJ62Ga_MACLcBGAs/s1600/88pack.JPG" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iz4wyXv0Ahg/WVFoDrF00tI/AAAAAAAAU6s/9zlglm7mxegO7L5IzAFduxF0dJ62Ga_MACLcBGAs/s320/88pack.JPG" width="240" height="320" data-original-width="1200" data-original-height="1600" /></a><br />
<br />
We're going to do another got it/need it for this cello pack. For a 28-card pack, I'd consider getting at least ten cards I don't have a victory. Anything above that, a major success.<br />

Wow, 14 cards needed out of 28! A 50% success rate for a set that's about 2/3 finished is pretty good. We hit the sweet spot with three in a row toward the end there with Ford, Gruber, and McGriff. That deserves the Daniel Bryan seal of approval.<br />

Here's more of the same.<br />
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xS0uf_7pXuA/WO_SdNXhO1I/AAAAAAAAUwo/jagJxosffd8N4U_8vKlSNroSEP5Nvs3gwCLcB/s1600/pdp%2Bpack.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-xS0uf_7pXuA/WO_SdNXhO1I/AAAAAAAAUwo/jagJxosffd8N4U_8vKlSNroSEP5Nvs3gwCLcB/s320/pdp%2Bpack.jpg" width="182" height="320" /></a><br />
<br />
Let's tear in.<br />
Top to Bottom:<br />
31 Michael Kopech<br />
Is up with the AA White Sox affiliate Birmingham Barons and apparently <a href="http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2017/04/how_fast_does_birmingham_baron.html">throws some heat</a>.<br />
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QfxVdU1LNq4/WO_SjkC5SGI/AAAAAAAAUw4/EetWfjlRARsnT0V6SdXumxsNsqZZXxi7gCLcB/s1600/SCAN.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QfxVdU1LNq4/WO_SjkC5SGI/AAAAAAAAUw4/EetWfjlRARsnT0V6SdXumxsNsqZZXxi7gCLcB/s320/SCAN.jpg" width="229" height="320" /></a><br />
26 Foster Griffin<br />
High-A Wilmington Blue Rocks (Royals) with a 1-0 record and 0.82 ERA so far. Not too shabby.<br />
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KRkpK097rHI/WO_SfcOfzjI/AAAAAAAAUws/1eos5qlXjLwUNrwhYq31gN_BLOaZQ2lxACLcB/s1600/SCAN_0001.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KRkpK097rHI/WO_SfcOfzjI/AAAAAAAAUws/1eos5qlXjLwUNrwhYq31gN_BLOaZQ2lxACLcB/s320/SCAN_0001.jpg" width="227" height="320" /></a><br />
21 Michael Chavis Minors Gold Prizm<br />
High-A Salem Red Sox. Likes to <a href="http://www.masslive.com/redsox/index.ssf/2017/03/michael_chavis_boston_red_sox_2.html">keep injuries from his club</a>.<br />
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vW8M6Jjc7W4/WO_Sgth8aaI/AAAAAAAAUww/TeyATcltXhwSk3am2VmKZ04DcJy2q2EOACLcB/s1600/SCAN_0002.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-vW8M6Jjc7W4/WO_Sgth8aaI/AAAAAAAAUww/TeyATcltXhwSk3am2VmKZ04DcJy2q2EOACLcB/s320/SCAN_0002.jpg" width="226" height="320" /></a><br />
22 Chris Ellis<br />
AAA Memphis Redbirds (St. Louis) - Being part of this parent club, of course, ensures that Chris will eventually strike out every Brewer he faces for all eternity.<br />
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OK5aPLgHR4A/WO_SiKug3wI/AAAAAAAAUw0/fBQO1w17Ay4Dqc-5q2ynz5RqIFW0XE4-ACLcB/s1600/SCAN_0003.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OK5aPLgHR4A/WO_SiKug3wI/AAAAAAAAUw0/fBQO1w17Ay4Dqc-5q2ynz5RqIFW0XE4-ACLcB/s320/SCAN_0003.jpg" width="226" height="320" /></a><br />
<br />
So the insert was pretty cool, and I gained a newfound appreciation for the logo of the Blue Rocks.<br />
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TiYAPH4ivHk/WO_V5o2zc7I/AAAAAAAAUxI/nccoDfbE6l0g6w1aL1L5sz1IVKksJ6a7wCLcB/s1600/lbluerockslogo1.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TiYAPH4ivHk/WO_V5o2zc7I/AAAAAAAAUxI/nccoDfbE6l0g6w1aL1L5sz1IVKksJ6a7wCLcB/s320/lbluerockslogo1.jpg" width="320" height="180" /></a><br />
Pretty cool, but from my digging I found that Wilmington has a secondary mascot, Mr. Celery.<br />
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aCtLI0ueW4I/WO_V8aArGII/AAAAAAAAUxM/ldV8CQE4fl4vUNMr7nNNQQh7D9oEtH2EACLcB/s1600/mr%2Bcelery.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-aCtLI0ueW4I/WO_V8aArGII/AAAAAAAAUxM/ldV8CQE4fl4vUNMr7nNNQQh7D9oEtH2EACLcB/s320/mr%2Bcelery.jpg" width="239" height="320" /></a><br />
I want to go on a road trip with Mr. Celery. I wonder if he shares an affinity for any of my favorite car treats (Gummy Life Savers and beef jerky)? Either way, he won't even have to chip in that much for tolls. We will get all the babes. Just not my cup of tea. However, they are a bit more fun to open when they are a few years old. The possibility exists that you hit a guy you've actually heard of. Let's check in and see where the guys we pull are at in their careers.<br />
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cEJdIA1KRjQ/WO7jjtE8MsI/AAAAAAAAUv8/caKUwONVIEEV_UtJbPMYwM7CmKTIvCpgwCLcB/s1600/pdp%2Bpack.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cEJdIA1KRjQ/WO7jjtE8MsI/AAAAAAAAUv8/caKUwONVIEEV_UtJbPMYwM7CmKTIvCpgwCLcB/s320/pdp%2Bpack.jpg" width="182" height="320" /></a><br />
<br />
Let's tear in.<br />
Top to Bottom:<br />
36 Isan Diaz<br />
Diaz was part of the trade that sent Jean Segura (featured in yesterday's pack, coincidentally) to the Diamondbacks. Just last week, Diaz was promoted from the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to the High-A Carolina Mudcats. <br />
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-T7pRz67raGI/WO7jlTCceEI/AAAAAAAAUwA/llny7Hd8Bdglp3uTrlEO9s21T-5Ouv6NQCLcB/s1600/diaz.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-T7pRz67raGI/WO7jlTCceEI/AAAAAAAAUwA/llny7Hd8Bdglp3uTrlEO9s21T-5Ouv6NQCLcB/s320/diaz.jpg" width="228" height="320" /></a><br />
<b>64 Trace Loehr Prizm</b><br />
Currently on the Class A Beloit Snappers, batting .083 in 12 plate appearances this season.<br />
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ob3dQpNBBtM/WO7jmuTOtPI/AAAAAAAAUwE/mxC2lrVw2Xsg-qqSeeEm-8KZC9dIDAaIwCLcB/s1600/loehr.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ob3dQpNBBtM/WO7jmuTOtPI/AAAAAAAAUwE/mxC2lrVw2Xsg-qqSeeEm-8KZC9dIDAaIwCLcB/s320/loehr.jpg" width="230" height="320" /></a><br />
37 Jordan Montgomery<br />
Today was the biggest day of Jordan's life so far. Not long ago, he was named the Yankees' fifth starter in a surprise announcement. Today he started his first major league game, pitching 4 2/3 innings and giving up two earned runs in an 8-4 Yankees victory over the Rays. He was not the pitcher of record, but he struck out seven batters. Pretty cool to get his card today.<br />

37 Austin Cousino<br />
Released by the Mariners while in single-A last year, Austin is not listed on any team's roster for the 2017 season.<br />
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yYWvsid3TBU/WO7jo87zg_I/AAAAAAAAUwM/FLM6wGa8tfwgf-1P-rRfW-9V7b-SkmZugCLcB/s1600/cousino.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yYWvsid3TBU/WO7jo87zg_I/AAAAAAAAUwM/FLM6wGa8tfwgf-1P-rRfW-9V7b-SkmZugCLcB/s320/cousino.jpg" width="227" height="320" /></a><br />

<br />
Actually a very nice looking set. Huge logos in the background will do that. Nice mix of retired and current players. I would actually spend money building a set of this, if it came to that.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15421385.post-20133831387528879522015-11-17T15:57:00.000-05:002015-11-17T15:57:52.595-05:001994 Flair Series 1Let’s cut to the chase here. 1994 Flair is a set that’s stylin’ and profilin’. It’s a set worthy of the Flair moniker, although there can only be one true Flair. Ric Flair, that is. Today, we’re going to open a pack and see how each card measures up to the Nature Boy.<br />
<br />
Let’s tear in.<br />
<br />
Top to Bottom:<br />
177 Pedro Astacio<br />
Score: <b>Woo! Woo!</b><br />
The Dodgers’ proximity to Tinseltown is this card’s saving grace.<br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1mJo65t0itU/VkuSRKXN3fI/AAAAAAAATnQ/7gMfDN8TIHk/s1600/94%2Bastacio.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1mJo65t0itU/VkuSRKXN3fI/AAAAAAAATnQ/7gMfDN8TIHk/s320/94%2Bastacio.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
168 Andujar Cedeno<br />
Score: <b>Woo!</b><br />
No literal connection between Andujar and Flair, but he looks good taking a cut, which Ric would approve of.<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wjf_pF02gPI/VkuSVgIXA2I/AAAAAAAATnY/KUzwuauqDSU/s1600/94%2Bcedeno.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-wjf_pF02gPI/VkuSVgIXA2I/AAAAAAAATnY/KUzwuauqDSU/s320/94%2Bcedeno.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
196 John Franco<br />
Score: <b>Woo! Woo! Woo!</b><br />
I was listening to a podcast the other day where some video game guys were talking Mets baseball, and one of them could only name Gooden and Franco. This shows Franco had enough Flair in him to make a non-fan remember him.<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ARblnNPM_08/VkuSWenUzdI/AAAAAAAATng/y_FygjQlUm4/s1600/94%2Bfranco.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ARblnNPM_08/VkuSWenUzdI/AAAAAAAATng/y_FygjQlUm4/s320/94%2Bfranco.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
82 Jimmy Key<br />
Score: <b>Woo! </b><br />
Flair was from Tennessee, Key from Alabama. That’s all we have to hang our hats on. Plus, New York is the antithesis of Flair’s wrestling roots.<br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-J5ZyMJMzmVE/VkuTwpXxqtI/AAAAAAAATno/s3AYg37abG8/s1600/94%2Bkey.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-J5ZyMJMzmVE/VkuTwpXxqtI/AAAAAAAATno/s3AYg37abG8/s320/94%2Bkey.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
295 Checklist<br />
Score: <b>Woo! Woo!</b><br />
Checklists usually suck, but this one features Greg Maddux, baseball embodiment of “To be the man, you’ve got to beat the man.”<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-msnhz_e7tuk/VkuTxnA_KdI/AAAAAAAATnw/n8knLMGYlrc/s1600/94%2Bchecklist.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-msnhz_e7tuk/VkuTxnA_KdI/AAAAAAAATnw/n8knLMGYlrc/s320/94%2Bchecklist.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
216 Mark Dewey<br />
Score: <b>Woo!</b><br />
This Dewey guy is the baseball equivalent of a jobber.<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AYtqpReUYJ4/VkuTypNBN1I/AAAAAAAATn4/P3GkQeNYlM4/s1600/94%2Bdewey.jpeg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-AYtqpReUYJ4/VkuTypNBN1I/AAAAAAAATn4/P3GkQeNYlM4/s320/94%2Bdewey.jpeg" /></a><br />
<br />
234 Trevor Hoffman<br />
Score: <b>Woo! Woo! Woo!</b><br />
Flair: WWE Hall of Fame<br />
Hoffman: Could get in Baseball Hall of Fame, if voters ever got their act together about relievers.<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gql_TkK0faA/VkuUDiZlCVI/AAAAAAAAToA/yYWHnBLNXB4/s1600/94%2Bhoffman.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gql_TkK0faA/VkuUDiZlCVI/AAAAAAAAToA/yYWHnBLNXB4/s320/94%2Bhoffman.jpg" /></a><br />

468 Wilin Rosario FS (I've noticed that Topps has been much more liberal with the Future Stars imprint as of late. Not everybody is a B.J. Surhoff, guys.)<br />

I picked it up inside a $7.99 Fairfield repack box on Friday after work. The reason I was at Target was to pick up a birthday present for my daughter to give to a kid whose party was today. However, my daughter put herself in a horrible mood right before the party and didn't want to go. Long story short, we walked into the party, dropped off the gift, turned around, and headed home. To reiterate, "What's the Point?"<br />

What's the point of inserts in a set like this?<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QL0mt9LR8hs/VQ3dFlgjHBI/AAAAAAAATGA/U2eUcqRTZsE/s1600/baez.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-QL0mt9LR8hs/VQ3dFlgjHBI/AAAAAAAATGA/U2eUcqRTZsE/s320/baez.jpg" /></a><br />

Really, what's the point of this?<br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9jwomF9MQzA/VQ3dGdqPjpI/AAAAAAAATGI/KsNjnSrzrH0/s1600/strasburg.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-9jwomF9MQzA/VQ3dGdqPjpI/AAAAAAAATGI/KsNjnSrzrH0/s320/strasburg.jpg" /></a><br />
BPP19 Byron Buxton<br />
My Twins fan brother-in-law has actually traveled to see Buxton play in the minors. I didn't have the heart to tell him that Buxton will eventually play a huge part in knocking the Twins out of the playoffs as a member of the New York Yankees at some point in the future. Again, what's the point?<br />

I think it's the unique type of fandom that the sport demands that has made it attractive to me. A combination of scripted drama with the possibility of actual surprise is an intriguing one, and for this reason, I plunked down $1.99 at my local Target.<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-q4aHb9hQLtQ/VQWa0wPs4NI/AAAAAAAATDo/IIVwN7lvI3g/s1600/wwe%2Bpack.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-q4aHb9hQLtQ/VQWa0wPs4NI/AAAAAAAATDo/IIVwN7lvI3g/s320/wwe%2Bpack.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
Let's tear in.<br />
Top to Bottom:<br />
<b>42 John Cena</b><br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wEguSgxIuOU/VQWa2bVf1AI/AAAAAAAATDU/3b18HfNADPs/s1600/cena.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wEguSgxIuOU/VQWa2bVf1AI/AAAAAAAATDU/3b18HfNADPs/s320/cena.jpg" /></a><br />
He gets a bad rap from serious fans, but I can't help but like the guy. They say he's there for the kids to have someone to cheer for, but I appreciate what he brings to the ring. His ring entrance music is the best in the business, in my opinion.<br />
<br />
<b>7 Big E</b><br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QmmuBGn3FIQ/VQWa2m7Hy4I/AAAAAAAATDY/i7b-KmSfcoY/s1600/big%2Be.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-QmmuBGn3FIQ/VQWa2m7Hy4I/AAAAAAAATDY/i7b-KmSfcoY/s320/big%2Be.jpg" /></a><br />
Currently representing for The New Day, a group of clowny also-rans that are downright embarrassing to watch. Automatic FF when I'm watching RAW on the DVR.<br />
<br />
<b>41 Jimmy Uso</b><br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BvhfisdFQl0/VQWa3hNYvyI/AAAAAAAATDk/dClEKikIp8Q/s1600/uso.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-BvhfisdFQl0/VQWa3hNYvyI/AAAAAAAATDk/dClEKikIp8Q/s320/uso.jpg" /></a><br />
Part of another snooze-inducing tag team. The WWE's tag division is an absolute joke, a far cry from the days of Demolition and the Road Warriors.<br />
<br />
<b>55 Nikki Bella</b><br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hjZ5RmxwJvI/VQWa-IscGmI/AAAAAAAATD0/vWHFhnqhIXA/s1600/bella.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hjZ5RmxwJvI/VQWa-IscGmI/AAAAAAAATD0/vWHFhnqhIXA/s320/bella.jpg" /></a><br />
Fitting I get one Diva in a pack, just like you get one Divas segment per show. Nikki is the less attractive of the Bellas. Fact.<br />
<br />
<b>66 Rusev</b><br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VcF-7m4Hao0/VQWbD1Ag4PI/AAAAAAAATD8/-iPG5wK4ojM/s1600/rusev.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-VcF-7m4Hao0/VQWbD1Ag4PI/AAAAAAAATD8/-iPG5wK4ojM/s320/rusev.jpg" /></a><br />
This guy never disappoints. The Russian schtick is enjoyable, and I love it when he gets enraged and starts shouting in rapid Russian (or Bulgarian, possibly, his true heritage). Looking forward to another match with Cena, though that storyline looks as if it's gone by the wayside at the moment.<br />
<br />
<b>Crowd Chants 6 "This is Awesome!"</b><br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6HT9GzlhrwE/VQWbFULlZ7I/AAAAAAAATEE/RYr1zncGNZI/s1600/kofi.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-6HT9GzlhrwE/VQWbFULlZ7I/AAAAAAAATEE/RYr1zncGNZI/s320/kofi.jpg" /></a><br />
Fun idea for an insert, but I wish I had gotten someone with a little more pop.<br />
<br />
<b>Hulk Hogan 6 Faces Andre the Giant at Wrestlemania IV</b><br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_rXe4zSDh-o/VQWbG9e7ZTI/AAAAAAAATEM/I7K5keZSOiQ/s1600/hogan.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_rXe4zSDh-o/VQWbG9e7ZTI/AAAAAAAATEM/I7K5keZSOiQ/s320/hogan.jpg" /></a><br />
What's that, two inserts in this retail pack? Can't go wrong with that. Hogan rules.<br />
<br />
So I have to say I think I'll be buying more of these. I like the use of the 2015 Topps baseball design, and with a small set, I think completion won't be all that difficult. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go listen to the Cheap Heat podcast.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15421385.post-36762094523997919772015-03-07T18:42:00.000-05:002015-03-07T18:50:12.487-05:001988 ToppsI found this pack in a box full of miscellaneous junk. My 1988 Topps cards are housed in an 800-count box that looks to be about 9/17 full. As I open the pack, I’ll check which cards I need. I’m considering five cards needed from this pack a success.<br />

438 Randy Velarde<br />
342 Ken Griffey (Love getting a look at Griffey's rookie here. Amazing, too, that his son's rookie cards came only 15 years later. And here's another mind-blower: 1991 Stadium Club is only slightly closer in age to 1974 Topps than it is to cards from the present.)<br />

443 Vicente Palacios<br />

While my gut says Series 1 had a somewhat stronger player lineup, a quick look at BCP tells me that the two checklists were pretty equal. McGwire would have been a nice pull back in the day, and Rob Deer was a personal favorite of mine. Up tonight, a pack of cards from one of those sets that wasn't sold at any stores 10-year-old me frequented, so I don't have a ton of it. 1989 Fleer is still somewhat uncharted territory to me. Will I stumble across a Randy rookie, or the infamous Dick Tracy villain, FuckFace?<br />

As a little add-on, I picked up this cello pack that the Yount guy was selling with Robin featured on the front. To me, this doesn't represent something different, but I understand the completist mentality. I bought it with the intent to open it, as '86 Fleer is a set I don't have too much of.<br />

Just take the start of their first name, add the beginning of their last name, throw a hyphen in there, and PRESTO! Instant nickname! Let's see how this works.<br />

Top to Bottom:<br />
198 Ryan Howard (Ry-Ho. Futuristic, would fit in well with the Voltron crew or the Thundercats.)<br />

Never mind, bad idea, it only works out like 10% of the time.<br />
Gotta say I like these cards, though. Although Topps probably heard how much we liked it when their OD product is designed without the foil player names, then decided on difficult-to-read light gray. 'Sup? I couldn't pass up a Sweet Spot Classic John Montefusco on the front of this repack (I actually need it for that base set), plus I was told to "Look for Memorabilia Cards!" (like everyone else at my Target, I looked at the sides of the package, saw no thick cards, and said "meh", but I'm the yutz who brought it home anyway), so here we go, my first post here, 100 cards of dubious vintage for your perusal and enjoyment!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
'88 Donruss #228 Willie Randolph (This is the best of this very sad bunch of '88 Donruss, 17 in a row in fact, so I'll only burden you with a scan of this one. Worst part is, I can see the borders in the 2nd stack of cards that I haven't been through yet. When "I hope they're at least Leaf" enters your head, you know you're in trouble. This was a borderline Bipping.)</div>

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
'87 Topps #250 Teddy Higuera</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Now, I know what you're thinking, but shut up, I like Teddy Higuera, and this is a great card of him.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
'90 Topps Mail-In Glossy #20 Ken Griffey Jr.! (I have it already, blast it, and it's dinged up, but compared the first half of this pack, this is like heaven...)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjViGMHiS3dk5749q4C3daLtg8devP98JfugJzOz-sjSbu7iiCDEwtz6qFvRaB77ttf7vk6bjUqfW3Pfoi476jlNUHL4N-qUUGYXeq8PD8tVVzIAsnMpZw9Oua26DLamP46-MXP/s1600/91glossyallstars.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="185" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjViGMHiS3dk5749q4C3daLtg8devP98JfugJzOz-sjSbu7iiCDEwtz6qFvRaB77ttf7vk6bjUqfW3Pfoi476jlNUHL4N-qUUGYXeq8PD8tVVzIAsnMpZw9Oua26DLamP46-MXP/s400/91glossyallstars.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Then this happened. '91 Topps Glossy All-Star #19 Andre Dawson, #13 Will Clark and #22 Juan Marichal. Now, I haven't looked on eBay yet, and I probably shouldn't make my life any harder than it is, but I feel compelled to mention that, in my usual travels, I've never found '91 Glossy All-Stars before these three. They were a mail-in, if I'm not mistaken, so the bulk of these are probably sitting in Fairfield's warehouse collecting dust or something.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Actually needed this dinged up poor bastard of a card. Vander Wal was one heck of a pinch-hitter.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: center;">
A closer look at the card that sold the pack, 2003 Upper Deck Sweet Spot Classic #46 John "The Count" Montefusco. I think he still lives in the same town as the Target I went to. Probably planted the card himself. I should put all the real junk wax from this in his mailbox.</div>
