2008 Timelines

Here's a quickie just to get a pack in today. 2008 Timelines Hobby - first one for me with an autograph. Don't get all excited or anything though as you will soon see...

41 Justin Verlander - Got it.

60 Luke Hochevar RC - Need it! The back of the card has the same hobbit looking photo used as the model for the Masterpieces set painting. One other thing I've noticed... If the second card in the pack is the base rookie card, that means you got a Yankee Stadium Legacy card or an autograph.

127 Rico Washington '92 UD - Got it.

203 Randor Bierd Autograph - Not only do I need card 203, now I have it autographed! Or I have a sticker with an autograph plastered on it at least. Randor also is the winner of the "2008 Foster Castleman Memorial Most Awesomest Name Award" hands down.

370 J.R. Towles '95 SP - I've pulled five 1995 SP short prints cards so far. THREE OF THEM HAVE BEEN J.R. TOWLES. Argh.

150 Grady Sizemore '94 Heroes - Need it! I don't understand why so many people think the floating heads on these cards look weird. Ok, well this one is a little nightmarish, I suppose.

199 Kosuke Fukudome '95 minors - Thorzul just traded me this card. I wonder if his has the huge roller mark going right down the middle like 80% of all the rest of the cards from this subset have running through them.

220 Adrian Gonzalez Timeless Teams - I need this card and... YES! I needed the Padres stadium too! This was a good pack right here even with the SP triple and the hated Fukudome.

2008 Upper Deck Timelines retail breaks

2008 Upper Deck Timelines retail [$1.97 each] - I really like the product, but then base cards are off-center. There are just minor nicks and dings [maybe from the way these 'cheap packs' are dispensed from a cardboard like display].

#45 Vladimir Guerrero - a nice Halo card to start the pack.
#50 Erik Bedard - where exactly is his his listed birthplace of Navan, Ontario?
#23 Matt Kemp - potential to be a great outfielder with great tools but not quite a 'baseball player' yet [more of a young, athlete playing off his immense ability].
#104 Chris Duncan 1992 Upper Deck Minor League style - not the greatest player in the world to be 'immortalized' on a classic Upper Deck set design.
#199 Kosuke Fukudome 1995 Upper Deck Minor League SP Top Prospects die cut style - the Japanese import seemed to be a 'rookie' bust who got the bat knocked off his hands at times in the second half of his MLB debut season. Hopefully he gets his act together in his sophomore season with the Chicago Cubs.

#255 Torii Hunter Timeless Teams style - another Halo card, this time to finish the pack.

2008 Upper Deck Timelines retail [pack #2] - I'm going to get a serious 'hit' out of a $2 pack of cards, but the novelty of the classic designs appeal to my collecting palate. I mean it isn't basic 2008 Topps or basic 2008 Upper Deck [which I do like].

#31 Manny Ramirez - he is still fishing for a four or five year deal. While all it matters is him hitting the tar out of the ball, he is 36 and considering his baggage, it doesn't look like there are teams willing to invest in him.
#12 Jimmy Rollins

#48 Ichiro - an actual base card with decent centering; nice looking.

#105 Clay Timpner 1992 Upper Deck Minor League style - off-center

#339 Joey Votto 1994 Upper Deck SP Premier Prospects style
#305 Carl Crawford 2004 Timeless Teams style

2008 Upper Deck Timelines retail

2008 Upper Deck Timelines retail [$1.97 each] - retail packs contain six cards as opposed to eight for hobby. I was thinking of picking up the lone blaster box I see of Tristar Projections High Series, but held off during a trip to Walmart.

#6 Hanley Ramirez - base cards were all off-center; it seems like when I find a nice looking product, you find some lack of quality that detracts you from picking up a full box or something that says, 'I love this product' otherwise.

#42 Joe Mauer - the gray borders on the base cards seems so drab.

#24 Matt Holliday - part of the back of the card was scratching off and onto the next card.

#127 Rico Washington 1992 Upper Deck Minor League style - another off-centered card. While it may not show at all, there are scratches on the card. It kind of feels like a 1992 Upper Deck card that has been handled well.

#333 Clayton Kershaw 1993 Upper Deck SP style - there is a tiny nick on the left-hand corner and while the scan might not show it, the card is otherwise sharp looking.

#277 Derek Jeter 2004 Upper Deck Timeless Team style - he is OK.
