The 50-Cent Cheapo Pack Break: 1996 Studio

This is the final installment of the initial wave of 50-Cent Cheapo Pack Break videos. The results of this ongoing experiment in video gonzo baseball card journalism are, and I must admit, mixed. Not a failed experiment, not yet.... More packs must be acquired. But which ones? Did they like the late-80s/early-90s Topps cellos? Or was it the mid-90s semi-premium wax?

More packs must be busted, and more videos must be made. But when? And from where?
How would Jefferson Burdick handle the situation?

But most important of all is some advice my attorney recently e-mailed to me.

"As your attorney, I advise you to wear the royal blue `Rated Rookie' t-shirt from now on. Your fans seem to think that it has mysterious, God-like powers."

My attorney is very wise. He's not just some dingbat I found on the strip. He's a foreigner. I think he's probably Samoan.

Ahh, yes. The video.... 1996 Studio.... Fine product, fine product. A marked improvement over the disastrous 1995 set. '96 Studio was the first "Donruss" product released by Pinnacle Brands after they bought 'em out. (Some good that did them, huh?) I believe I already have the whole base set stashed away somewhere -- probably in my parent's basement -- so I'm just looking for inserts. Hopefully a Stained Glass Star.

The 50-Cent Cheapo Video Pack Break: 1990 Topps Cello

It's another 50 cent Topps junk pack, this time from 1990! Could there be a Frank Thomas NNOF RC? (probably not) Or the mysterious George Bush USA card? (yeah, right) And what does an 18-year-old stick of "Stale Gum" taste like anyway? Let's find out!

(And yes, that is the Fox Soccer Channel in the background)

The 50-Cent Cheapo Pack Break: 1995 Donruss Series Two Hobby

I was going to do a video pack break of this, but while in the process of busting these packs, my internet connection went kaput. So in lieu of that, I'm just going to tell you what I pulled.

The 50-Cent Cheapo Video Pack Break: 1989 Topps Cello

BLOGGERS NOTE: A Pack A Day has been an ongoing experiment in gonzo baseball card journalism. So far it has been a runaway success. Now it's time for this blog to make the next logical progression: VIDEO gonzo baseball card journalism. Over the next few days I'll be ripping on video a bunch of 50-cent junkpacks I bought at a cardshow today. These videos will then be uploaded to YouTube, and the results posted here.

Please feel free to leave feedback on what you see. What do you like? What don't you like? If you the APAD readers like the video format and want to see more, expect to see more videos in the future.

"Buy the junkpack, take the ride."

First pack: A 1989 Topps cello.
